1 GLACIER HIKE TO THE SEETHALERHÜTTE

If you're looking for an impressive hike amidst breathtaking alpine scenery, the glacier hike to the Seethalerhütte is the perfect choice. Perched at an impressive 2,740 metres, this hut is a true gem of the Dachstein massif. Here, you can enjoy not only spectacular views but also indulge in delicious culinary treats.

Starting Point: Dachstein Glacier Lift Mountain Station

The hike begins at the Dachstein Glacier Lift mountain station. Even the cable car ride is an experience in itself, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains through its large windows. Once at the top, you’ll find yourself in the midst of a stunning high-alpine landscape.

The Trail to the Seethalerhütte

The route is relatively short (approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour each way) but traverses high-alpine terrain. The well-prepared path leads you through a fascinating landscape of rock, ice, and snow, which remains captivating even in summer. Along the way, you’ll get an up-close view of the Dachstein Glacier.

Seethalerhütte

At the top, the cosy Seethalerhütte, a shelter operated by the Austrian Alpine Association, awaits you. Perched on a rocky outcrop, it offers a warm welcome and the chance to enjoy a delicious snack while taking in the incredible surroundings.

Return Journey

You’ll return to the starting point via the same trail.

  • Equipment: Sturdy hiking boots, weatherproof clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen are essential, as you’ll be hiking in high-alpine conditions.
  • Weather: Check the forecast before setting out, as weather conditions can change rapidly at this altitude.
  • Fitness: Although the trail is relatively short, you should take time to acclimatise to the thinner air.
