TECHNICAL DETAILS OF THE DACHSTEIN Stairway to Heaven
The impressive Dachstein sky ladder offers fascinating views and has been realised with precise technical details:
- Total weight: 6,360 kg (steel construction: 3,600 kg)
- Steps: 12 inclines including one grating and one glass platform
- Glass: 52 mm thick glass floor, consisting of 5 individual panes, 4 of which are bonded
- Overhang: The stairs project approx. 4.8 m from the edge of the front
- Construction: The steel construction was delivered in 16 individual parts and assembled on site one after the other using a crane. Installation began with the two interior beams to reinforce the ceiling, followed by the welded box-section stringers and the assembly of the individual steps.
This staircase combines functionality and safety and blends harmoniously into the surroundings of the Dachstein glacier.
